PUT THE PAST BEHIND YOU
Do You Feel Weighed Down by the Past?
Maybe your past is affecting your ability to enjoy life, or perhaps you have trouble trusting others. You may be wishing you could just forget about what happened to you and move on with life, or simply go to sleep and not wake up at all. Perhaps you’re feeling so anxious, you’re having panic attacks and having a hard time functioning every day.
Whatever it is that you’re experiencing, you’re beginning to notice the impact of this in every facet of your life:
Difficulty sleeping (nightmares, insomnia)
Appetite is messed up (overeating or no appetite at all)
Poor energy or none at all
Disconnected from people around you - lack of emotional and physical intimacy
Don’t enjoy anything anymore - let hobbies go. Fun? What is that?
Struggling to stay focused at work (calling in, going in late, making mistakes)
Crying
Trauma Therapy Can Help
It may feel impossible now, but you can let go of guilt and shame. You can strengthen your self-esteem. You can learn to trust others and yourself again (or maybe for the first time ever). And I can help you get there.
Trauma therapy helps you do 5 things:
Understand how critical events in your life have shaped who you are today, i.e., the connections between your past and your present thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
Learn how to calm and soothe yourself with new coping strategies.
Heal from past hurts, including abuse, loss, regrets, abandonment, and addiction.
Develop hope for the future.
Move forward with love for yourself.
I’ll help you through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances. My approach to trauma therapy comes from a place of hope and respect: I have been and am still on this journey myself. I know how hard it is to ask for help and to continue to show up when we are hurting. We all deserve to have a compassionate guide along the way when we are ready to do the work. I am available if you are ready.
I do not believe anyone is too broken to heal.
It’s time to start fully enjoying life.
I can help you get there.
Imagine a life where…
You easily fall asleep, stay asleep, and wake up feeling rested.
You feel happy with yourself and your life.
You frequently laugh and enjoy spending time with family and friends.
You enjoy being touched; hugs are okay and you are not easily startled.
Panic attacks and feeling anxious all the time are a thing of the past.
You feel fulfilled in your work, you show up every day on time.
People notice the positive changes and ask, ‘What’s different? You seem so good!’
Trauma therapy can help you achieve all of this! Let’s get started.
You May Have Some Questions About Trauma Therapy…
What if I don’t feel comfortable talking about my trauma?
My main approach to trauma therapy uses a modality called EMDR or Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing. It does not require you to discuss anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. You don’t have to share the details of your trauma verbally. With EMDR, we focus on the feelings, images, and beliefs associated with your memories. Speech is not an essential component. You can learn more about it here.
I don’t want anyone to find out what happened to me. Will you have to tell anyone?
As a therapist, I am required by law to protect your confidentiality and privacy. I will not share any of your personal information without a signed release of information and previous discussion with you. There are very few instances according to the laws and ethics of my profession when I can disclose what is said in the therapy room: if you are a danger to yourself or others, or if there is knowledge of harm to a child or elderly person (or other adult with the inability to care for themselves) or the imminent risk of harm to these vulnerable populations.
I don’t have a good memory of what happened to me. Can I still participate in trauma therapy?
Thankfully, you don’t have to remember all the details of your trauma to heal from it. The focus of my sessions is on the symptoms that come from your experience, not the experience itself. The goal is to help you heal the emotional, cognitive, and physical pain that lingers in the wake of your trauma.
Are there any other resources available to help me?
Yes! Great question. I offer group counseling for both women and men. For women, I offer a Women's Trauma and Depression Therapy Group. For men with substance use problems, I offer a Men’s Relapse Prevention Group. For fellow therapists, I offer a group for just you! If you are interested in participating in group therapy, you can ask about it at any time during the counseling process.
